HTML5 Web Standards – The Future of the Web

HTML5 Web Standards - The Future of the Web

Many of us have heard of HTML5, an upgrade to the existing HTML (HyperText Markup Language) that is used to build websites. There has been a long-lasting controversy between Apple and Adobe (Flash) on whether HTML5 should replace and eliminate Flash or simply become one more option for web developers to use.

Apple's CEO, Steve Jobs, has recently announced that his company is not willing to support Flash on either iPhones or iPads, because he truly believes that HTML5 is the future of the web. The HTML5 vs Flash debate has moved as far as to the political arena by having the U.S. Congress inquire Apple on the company's HTML5 statement and strategy.

Many media companies that are using Adobe Flash in their video and animation ads are worrying that Apple's move can drastically hit their profits (considering the popularity of iPhones and iPads).

Whatever happens, we think that it is up to the users to decide what they prefer to use. This life is all about options, and therefore we believe that both HTML5 and Flash will continue to be used. However, I personally would like to express ArtDriver's interest and willingness to exploit the benefits of HTML5 considering the fact that the new language has loads of amazing features to bring to the table.

Apple says that,

Every new Apple mobile device and every new Mac ‚Ai along with the latest version of Apple's Safari web browser supports web standards including HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript. These web standards are open, reliable, highly secure, and efficient. They allow web designers and developers to create advanced graphics, typography, animations, and transitions. Standards aren't add-ons to the web. They are the web. And you can start using them today.

Apple has put together an HTML5 showcase page to demonstrate what the new web standards are capable of. Check this showcase out at http://www.apple.com/html5/
